The year 2000/2001 found Bruce and I merrily traveling through Europe in our VW campervan Queenie, on a 13 month journey visiting 14 countries. Our travels were documented in an emailed journal we sent home to friends and family.

Now we are preparing to return to Europe on another extended trip. Join us as we camp our way across the continent.

Due to the advances in technology in the last 7 years, rather than email our journal home, we've chosen to create a web-journal in hopes that all who visit may get a more immediate feel of what we are experiencing.

In The Beginning:

Sunday, March 30, 2008 - (two days and counting)

Thanks to our great friend, Wendy Frisbee - who is playing chauffeur - we have transportation from Pahrump, NV to Los Angeles airport. We leave LAX Tuesday night at 9:15 for London's Heathrow, arriving there around 3pm on April 2.

Upon arrival we have a five hour window to clear customs, search out the Underground (subway) and take it to Liverpool Station in London proper. Once there we must find the 8:00 pm train taking us to Harwich, a ferry port to Holland. We will board a night ferry to the Hook of Holland and in the morning we'll take another train to Utrecht where our van "Lily" awaits. We booked a two-berth cabin on the ferry and hope to counter jetlag with a good nights sleep.

This package deal is offered to people wanting to traverse the British Isles/Europe mainland. An overnight one way train/ferry/train trip (like ours) costs £59/person (with our current exchange rate that is $117.50). Day packages are considerably cheaper at £29 ($58). Both are good prices if one’s exchange rate is decent. Unfortunately, ours is in the toilet right now.

Those of you who followed our last journey in 2000 may remember that we spent our first night in Europe sleeping under some bushes in a hotel parking lot in Utrecht. This beginning (at least as planned) is a bit more civilized, but still an adventure.

Next stop - Europe!
